Import or integrate all nautical beacons, buoys, lights in France from the official database provided by the French Naval Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service (“SHOM”). This includes all seamarks managed by the DAM (Direction des Affaires Maritimes), so most but not all beacons.
The goal of this import/integration is to add all nautical beacons, buoys, lights for France so that they together with the existing lights in OSM will provide a more complete repository of navigational installations. The import will cover France, including remote territories.
Hi Malcolm,
some remarks:
- add some documentation eg
-- https://wiki.opennauticalchart.org/inde … Java_Suite
-- https://github.com/KastB/josm-plugins/b … /Readme.md
- buildings are not rendered
Have a nice day, Dirk
(good) News from Duesseldorf: In case there is unbooked space at end of November, the fair is willing to provide an open-source-booth for free!
This boat show is rather long lasting, we need staff for 9 days! Who likes to participate?

Hope to see you next January, Dirk
Mapzen added some recreational features to their vector tile service: https://mapzen.com/blog/v0.10-tiles/
Just requested boating related layers:

Have a nice day, Dirk
finally some time to do first testing:
+ it works!
- multi polygons need to be downloaded fully (land/ water areas) to render a meaningful map
- need to delete layer / select imagery > SeaChart again after downloading area outside previous bounds
- slider layer opacity changes just brightness, not opacity

Hi Peter,
files at http://sourceforge.net/projects/opennautical/ are outdated.
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Seamarks#download shows alternatives.
Hope this helps, Dirk
Is the slow loading a limitation of your upstream bandwidth?
- http://tiles.openseamap.org/ serves the tiles
- .svgz tilesize is ~7 MB
- .png tilesize is ~ 40 KB
visit
http://maps.grade.de/int1.htm
to evaluate Malcolm's tiles
please note:
- tiles load slowly
- thus display is intentionally reduced to 512x512 pixel
- chrome works best, firefox might quit
Anyone at http://www.boot.de ?
- Werner http://gps-32.de does not have a booth this year
- http://riversandseas.de shows at Linssen Boating Holidays Hall 13/D75
Hi Oliver,
please browse through http://sourceforge.net/p/openseamap/mai … p-develop/ to get an idea, why we started this fork.

Installing Discourse is beyond the scope of my server's management framework.
@Niko: Will you take care of this?
@all: Shall we use a seperate subdomain like discourse.opennauticalchart.org?
just added a facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/OpenNauticalChart/
Who wants to join and needs privileges?
Thanks for the review!
- OSM base maps: I set opacity: 0.5
- rough overpass documentation: http://overpass-api.de/output_formats.html#popup
- raw tag values: I prefer seeing all the data and do not like filtered views (openCPN also shows the -even more cryptic- object attributes)
- edit button: Yes, having a JOSM link would be helpful
- grid display: In my case, map's target audience are inland navigators, no need for this feature here
