Hi,
Happy new year!
I just finished the first version of a online mapclient for searching free (or mostly) available bathymetry data: http://www.opendem.info/bathymetrysearcher.html
If somebody knows other sources please let me know.
Best,
Martin
Hi,
GPS tracking and height recording based on the barometric sensor of your mobile device.
The OpenDEM Tracker App Beta is now available in the Google Play Store:
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/in … demtracker
Please test the app and help to build up an Open Digital Elevation Model.
Be aware that this is an app with experimental status. With the present reference data of the weather APIs, it is not possible to create a reliable correction of the data over longer time periods.
Nonetheless, the first 10 minutes of every recorded track could be a good starting point to build up an OpenDEM.
Read more at http://www.opendem.info under the OpenDemTracker menue item.
There is also a OL3 mapclient with featureinfo, styling on demand, overviews with pointstacker and the possibility to visualize only a specific track.
http://www.opendem.info/opendemtracker_map.html
Perhaps some of the functions are also interesting for the OpenNauticalChart clients in adapted form.
Best,
Martin
Hi,
there is a new global seafloor map available:
https://scripps.ucsd.edu/news/new-map-e … s-seafloor
This is copyrighted work which could be used for non commercial works:
“Hi Martin, your open seas looks great! Yes please use anything on the site topex.ucsd.edu . The license is only for products where the data are sold….”
Is there a way to show the data in our map (and make it sense)?
In my opion there should be a way to integrate external data in the map (and a favotite list would be also nice).
But this envolves a dynamical change of the license of the map.
What do you think?
Now I am leaving for holidays ;-)
Best,
Martin
I am not really sure about the aim of this project.
If the aim is to host different apps like on www.openstreetmap.de I would like to share an idea.
There are lots of WMS regarding sea information out there and there are also national portals like the german www.geoseaportal.de. With the european inspire directive we will get many data and view services regarding the sea, stream network and lakes.
There are also already free software stacks like http://geonetwork-opensource.org/ or http://opengeoportal.org/software/open-geoportal/ which are designed for collecting metadata and viewing of standardized map services (like WMS).
In my view a global portal is missing for crawling the metadata and viewing of Map Services regarding sea information (or maybe I have overlooked something?) .
One problem would be the internationalization. Mostly the metadata of the services is only written in the national language. A functionality to add also a description in the “language of the web” would be great. But this would be also a lot of work with translation.
I do not have much time since I am focused on my www.opendem.info project, but I would like to contribute something. But perhaps others are also interested.
Hi Oliver,
Please contribute your depth data to the OpenSeaMap Depth site: http://depth.openseamap.org
As far as I know it is not possible and planed to upload depth data at OpenNauticalChart.
Best regards,
Martin
Hi,
I dont know if we have some interessing news and killer applications, but here are the confernces to be:
FOSS4G in Bonn August 24.-26th: Deadline for abstracts 21.12016
FOSSGIS in Salzburg 04.-06. Juli 2016: Deadline 1.2.2016
SOTM in Brussels 23 - 25, 2016: no deadline found yet
Best,
Martin
PS: There is also always a place for lightning talks or posters
Hi Malcom,
In germany we have e.g. the [GeoSeaPortal].
There is a lot of data available. The EU INSPIRE directive annex I will also include the stream network.
For the GeoSeaPortal there is also a WebCatalogueService interface available (and for all other INSPIRE compartible portals of the EU nations).
If we build up our own WCS we could also easily harvest the whole catalogue of the BSH.
Of course we could also integrate the desired Services manually.
Best,
Martin
Hi,
I am Martin and a geographer and WebGIS Developer (no Freelancer, therefore with proprietary software (ESRI)).
- Skill set relevant to ONC
Javascript, Java, OGC Services, dynamic interactive WebMapping and GIS, PostGIS, UMN Mapserver, Geoserver, QGIS
- Projects under way
At the moment I am focused on my OpenDEM project, but if interesting stuff comes away...
- Future project preferences
I thinking about an Catalog Services Interface for OpenLayers 3 where WMS Services could be loaded directly into OL3.
There are a lot of great WMS available regarding nautical and sea information.
It is a pitty that this information is not collected and served in a structured way.
If it fits I will also contribute to OSeaM, since user generated depth data is interesting stuff for me.
Best,
Martin
Hi,
Good to see so many people on this list ;-)
One important lesson from OSeaM was for me, that the goals and general structure of the "project" (it is not really a project because the end point is not fixed) should be transparent for all participants to avoid many frustrations.
Therefore I would suggest a preamble like (sorry for my english):
"OpenNauticalChart is an initiative with the goal to create a nautical map based on works with free and open-source licences (code, data & map).
The aim of the initiative is to make decisions together with the list (wiki, discource?) as the primary communication channel. To avoid any stagnation a two-thirds majority is required when the discussion strucks."
I am not sure if need any copyrighted services (e.g. the gebco bathymetry layer in OSeaM) in our mapclient.
Best,
Martin
